Expert Review of the ASTM A213 / ASME SA 213 Standard: Characteristics of Boiler Tubes

Technical regulations and scope of application for pipes according to ASTM A213/A213M

The ASTM A213/A213M standard defines the technical requirements for the manufacture of seamless pipes intended for use in boilers, superheaters, and high-load heat exchangers. The specification covers a wide range of ferritic and austenitic steels (including grades T5, TP304, and others), whose chemical composition and mechanical properties are systematized in Tables 1 and 2. EV Group China products comply with all rigorous standards of this specification, ensuring equipment reliability under extreme operating conditions.

c — for these alloys, there is no generally accepted trade name; identification is carried out exclusively by the UNS number.

Steels with an "H" suffix in the grade designation meet more stringent requirements compared to standard equivalents. These additional characteristics are aimed at providing increased creep resistance at high temperatures.

Geometric parameters of the pipes (diameters from 3.2 mm to 127 mm, wall thickness from 0.4 to 12.7 mm) are regulated by the specification. Upon customer request, EV Group China delivers pipes with non-standard dimensions, provided they maintain full compliance with the technical requirements of ASTM A213.

The standard uses two independent measurement systems: SI and "inch-pound". Combining values from different systems is prohibited due to the impossibility of exact mathematical conversion, which could lead to non-compliance of the product with safety parameters.
