ANSI/ASME B18.31.1M Standard: Metric Continuous and Double-End Studs
Technical Regulations and Scope of ANSI/ASME B18.31.1M Studs
The ANSI/ASME B18.31.1M standard defines the design parameters, geometric dimensions, and tolerances for metric continuous and double-end studs. This regulatory documentation is fundamental for the design of critical threaded connections in mechanical engineering and the energy sector.
Classification of products according to the standard
EV Group China supplies fasteners that conform to the following configurations described in the standard:
- Continuous Thread Studs: products with threads along the entire length of the rod, providing maximum contact area in through-hole connections.
- Double-End Studs (Stud Bolts): fasteners with a symmetrical thread configuration at both ends, designed to secure two mating parts by tightening nuts.
- Double-End Studs (Tap-End): specialized fasteners for installation into tapped blind holes. The thread length on the tap end is approximately 1.5 times the nominal diameter of the product.
Important note: Technical specifications for double-end studs allow for supply as a set with nuts or for direct installation into equipment bodies using locking compounds.
Shank Execution Parameters
The ANSI/ASME B18.31.1M standard establishes strict requirements for the execution of the stud shank portion:
- Reduced body diameter execution (to increase the fatigue strength of the connection).
- Full body diameter execution (corresponds to the nominal thread diameter).
